2022 Art Recap

Posted by picolocity366 - December 24th, 2022

2022 marked my return to making consistently "great" artwork to you guys that I hope you liked. To commemorate this year, I'll be making this post to send off my 1st full year on Newgrounds(feels so great to say that, finally.)

January

January was a weird month for me as it was where I first started practicing pixel art for the first time, which resulted in artworks like this:

I made it for pixel day this year and loved it, though I can't say it's held up the best against my recent drawings. It has the charm, but not the substance or flair I try to bring to all my drawings (and if it was there, there it has quickly disappeared over time.)

It's also where I really got into Dragon Quest and started to consume the lore and all that shit after playing the demo for Dragon Quest 11. Dragon Quest 3 was(and still is) my favorite of the series, and that resulted in this art being created:

Despite it's obvious poor quality, I stil find the charm in it. I've expressed interest in remaking it in the future, though I tend to slack off when it comes to stuff like that. Maybe as a New Years Resolution?

I also made another drawing for Pixel Day that was madness themed:

I actually rushed this drawing because I was just itching to draw something else for Pixel Day, and this was the result. This drawing would go through alot of changes later on (more on that later.)

That was what January looked like from an artistic perspective. It was very experimental for me and I like to look back on it here an then, for better or for worse.

February

This month was pretty light on art because it's actually my birthday month! Some of January's pixel artistry spilled over into February as well:

I had used a base of another drawing to make this on an alternate website, and it's what made me come to the conclusion that I hated bases. Other than that, the only other drawing I did this month was a rework of a previous one:

Needless to say, it was a huge improvement over its previous iteration, and I really liked how it came out.

It was also this month where I celebrated my birthday on the 22nd. It was then dubbed "the day of picolocity366."

That's still a thing, by the way.

I also finally got around to making an art for someone who asked me for one for quite awhile:

Needless to say, I'll be remaking it soon.

March

March was more or less the same from February. I made more pixel artworks because of my lack of having a drawing pen tablet at the time, so I used a free pixel art website to still make art and remain relevant.

That didn't happen.

This was the only one uploaded on Newgrounds.

April

Nothing for April because fuck April.

May

Not much for May either, other than a few WIPs of my Alien Hominid drawing that nobody would give a shit about.

June/July

June is interesting. I call it the collab month because it was the month I released the most arts I've done for two different collabs, the Alien Hominid Art Collab and the Faces of 2022 collab.

I had been working on the Alien Hominid one since the post announced it sometime in August, so It wasn't affected by my pen predicament. The face drawing I just made with a mouse.

After this month, I spent most of my time relaxing in summer vacation vibes and didn't use my tablet for drawing much all, mostly because of my pen problem. But that problem and art hiatus would soon end in...

September

September was my art redemption month.

I finally got around to getting a new drawing pen at the end of July or so and I began work on a Castle Crashers art for a collab that ended up not panning out well regrettably. It's this art that I credit to making a significant turning point in my art on Newgrounds.

It ended up doing pretty well and even caught the attention of someone I really respected:

With this comment and others, it gave me the confidence to start drawing again, as it had been pretty drained after not drawing for such a long time.

September was also when I started seriously working on an FNF mod with my friend @Sammunist, where I was going to be the head animator/artist. I was able to make a spritesheet after alot of difficulty.

Madness Day also came around that September, and I redid an unfinished piece I made to celebrate on time:

It was originally pixelated, but I decided to redo it in Krita in October. I decided to replace the September version with the October one after some deliberation.

October

October was the month I slowed down on drawing again because of school especially, but also because of the Halloween art event. I still managed to squeak out a drawing or two through the month, though:

This was actually a request I got from someone who won an art contest of mine on that alternate website where I made my pixel art, which they fortunately liked.

My main focus this month though was my Halloween drawing that took alot of time to make. It was also the first drawing where I seriously used layers, which I find monumental, oddly.

It was released on the day before Halloween, and I think it turned out as well as it could:

There are alot of ideas and characters here I intend to expand upon, such as Fancypants Sora and Naruto Pico, which were my personal favorites.

November

November was mostly barren for art as I was occupied until thanksgiving break rolled around. It was then when I was able to squeak out a drawing for Robot Day, which I had my eye on for a while up till then.

It was pretty rushed, but I still liked it enough.

I also got around to making and showing off my childhood OC Ray for the first time(you'll be seeing her more in 2023.)

iu_847035_10067007.webp

But the biggest thing that happened in November for me was the 100 fan milestone I passed on the 5th.

iu_847036_10067007.png

It was something I never really thought would happen until it did, and I was giddy even if I tried my best not to show it. 100 people liked my stuff enough to they point that they were willing to stick around for it, which I still find miraculous.

I wonder how many times I can thank you guys for that before it gets repetitive.

December

December is going well.

I did a OC request for a guy named @BastardFromBrooklyn from the OC plaza that I ended up liking so much that I uploaded it to my page.

I also made a gift art for @Sammunist for his birthday, and I really hope he liked it despite it's lateness.

I then signed up for Secret Santa(which stressed me the hell out for awhile but that's a story for another time) and I've already made an art for Peter the Ant Day that'll release sometime on the 26th. And then...

The end of the year, pretty much.

I plan on making more art too, but then again I don't really know. My mind works in mysterious ways.

So yeah. I really like Newgrounds and the people here. The people I've met, the people I have yet to meet, and the people who I've just met. It just gels with everything I look for in a community, and I couldn't have asked for a better internet hangout spot.

So I wanna give a huge thank you to:

@TomFulp, for being the coolest 44 year old I know

@KingoftheArt, for being a great partner

@RaceRiggers, for being so damn cool

@Sammunist, for being there

@s-zenmode, for being an inspiration for me

@ReallyR4ndom, for scouting me and just for relative awesomeness

@TardyPizzaBoy, for always trying

@SolidAirgasm, for being balls to the wall hard

@MRGIllusion, for being consistently kind

@BastardFromBrooklyn, for being that cool uncle with the lame jokes(fuck Flork)

@Ant, for being @Ant

@Projects-Dev, for offering me great advice

@Asskick247, for being badass as hell

@Olexxie, for being a leen as hell lesbian

@Len-is-cool, for the sand witch

@Just-a-ng-dummy, for the great games

@cerealgutz, for hating ashton as much as I do

@7hendergames, for being my first follower

All my followers for sticking around

And everyone else who's been great to me this past year.

That being said though, I have a few New Years Resolutions I wanna get out of the way:

1: Start animating seriously and get around to releasing some actual animations.

2: Work on an actual game that's not a collab or something.

3: Start a collab of my own.

4: Work on Pico's Prison.

5: Start 3D modeling.

6: Watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and catch up with One Piece(currently on episode 146.)
