Learning to pick ones battles, and to realize when one is in the wrong, are all the good steps towards improving as a person.
When you pick battles, you learn to listen more and form more educated responses as to why you're on the opposing side in a conversation. When there's a time and a place to participate, you'll be more prepared and less hostile towards those who you disagree with. In my experience, anyway. Or perhaps you learn about something that could inform and change that opinion/belief. Either way, I'm glad you see this as a benefit to you and a lesson to learn from. I'm sorry that that often comes at the cost of a difficult lesson, however.
I wish you the best of luck on your exams, Picolo!
